From the first phone interaction they were caring, compassionate, and professional. Helen took our initial call and was empathetic and understanding, providing several scheduling options, including having a vet come that evening if needed. We decided to have one last night with our beloved cat. The next morning Steve, the vet, arrived quietly (no thunderous knock on the door) and was kind and gentle. He took his time to talk us through the process, reassure us, and introduce himself to our kitty. When the time was right we said goodbye to our sweet cat, all the while holding him in our arms. Steve worked around us, respected our space and stayed a bit longer to answer any questions and do one last check. At such a difficult time, it couldn’t have been a better experience. Steve assessed and cared for our lovely old dog right up to his final breath, allowing us to be involved and our much loved family pet to be where he wanted to be to end his days. Helen was so kind and supportive from our first conversation, and Steve, who came to our home to help give Ember the loving and painless end she deserved was so calm, open, friendly and kind to both us and her, that we felt completely at ease. It's hard to feel happy about something so sad as the death of a beloved pet, but I genuinely feel happy that we discovered Gentle Journey Home and their services and it went better than we could have ever hoped for her last moments with us. Steve’s calmness, thoughtfulness and also small attention to details, such as not wearing medical scrubs to home visits really speak to his character. I could not recommend their services enough. When we had to have Ellie put to sleep, we were very worried about the stress that final journey of taking her to our vet would cause. Luckily we were able to have her put to sleep in the comfort of her own home with her family present. Steve was wonderfully kind and compassionate and respected our wishes throughout the process.
